A musician who has raised thousands of pounds for Ukrainian causes, including two fundraising performances in Macclesfield, will return to our town next month.

Ukrainian pianist Ivan Hovorun, who has lived in Manchester since studying here 20 years ago, has been raising money to support Ukraine and Ukrainians since the war began.

Just days after the invasion, Ivan performed an emotive recital in Macclesfield for two national Ukrainian-related charities.

Three months later, he did a second concert raising money for Macclesfield-related Ukrainian causes. Combined, they raised an amazing £6000 for charity.

And now he will be returning to Macclesfield this September to perform a fundraising concert once again.

The concert will take place on September 15 at St Michael's Church, Market Place.

It will start at 1pm, with refreshments available at the Angel At My Table Cafe.

The concert is free, but donations are recommended.

Funds raise at this central Macclesfield concert will go towards Ukrainian teenagers studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.

This is after Ivan co-launched a bursary with the Manchester music school this time last year, which has supported seven students this far.

Ivan previous performances outside of Macclesfield have also helped raise £5000 for a fund to Ukrainian music students currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music.

And while he likely won't raise that much this time, every little helps, and Ivan won't stop doing these fundraising concerts anytime soon.

"I am doing it to support Ukrainian students and Ukrainian people. It is my main motivation to do all this," said Ivan.

"I love visiting the top of the balcony of St. Mike's, when waiting before a performance and seeing the church filled with people. It is an exciting feeling.

"This goal of helping people and the younger generations, spurs me on to learn new pieces and perform."

He's also planning to support Ukrainian music students in Inverness, Scotland as well. In the past year, Ivan has also done Ukraine-fundraisers for UNICEF and the Red Cross.

It is his first gig in Cheshire East since performing in Congleton last winter.
