‘Unforeseen circumstances’ push back opening of station's new cycle storage facility

'Unforeseen circumstances' have pushed back the opening of a new cycle storage facility.
Avanti West Coast, who manage Macclesfield railway station, have provided an update on the station's new 'safer' cycle storage and waiting area.
Works began over the summer but have been hit by delays, with the rail operator having not yet provided an opening date.
An Avanti West Coast spokesperson said: "Due to unforeseen circumstances, including asbestos removal and hot weather, the works to new cycle facilities have taken longer than expected.
"We're sorry for the inconvenience this has caused and are working hard to make the cycle storage available as soon as possible.
"Once open there will be 24 cycle spaces, which includes the temporary facilities on platform one that were put in place ahead of the planned works.
"As part of our plans to provide improved cycle storage at Macclesfield we welcome feedback from customers."

Once open, there will be a total of 24 spaces available – 16 at the new facility and eight at the 'temporary' facilities put in place on platform one before the works began.
However, Macclesfield resident and cyclist Robert Fickling says this is just half of what was previously available at the station.
Furthermore, the delays to the works have meant the temporary storage has been 'overwhelmed', resulting in some bicycles being locked to the emergency stairs by the lift.
Robert said: "This is causing big problems for cyclists to and from the station who are currently having to use an extremely unsuitable and ad hoc arrangement."
He added: "I've been a regular cyclist using Macclesfield station for over 20 years now, and over this time have seen cycle access demand grow substantially."
