Villagers' campaign to save their local pub builds momentum as closure looms

A village's campaign to save their local pub is building momentum.
The St Dunstan Inn in Langley is set to close its doors for good on August 31 as the current owners move on to pastures new.
However, residents have decided to take matters into their own hands and have launched a campaign to buy the pub and take it into community ownership to secure its future.
Rebecca Wynn, from the Save the Dunstan committee, said: "Locals are rightly concerned about losing not just a pub, but everything it represents: community, connection, and shared history.
"The strength of feeling has only deepened our determination to succeed.
"If you look across Langley and many surrounding villages, support for Saving the Dunstan is impossible to miss – banners and signs in windows, posters on fences and driveways, and supporters proudly wearing their 'Save The St Dunstan Inn' t-shirts."

The Save the Dunstan campaign has been gaining momentum is recent weeks thanks to several public meetings, the launch of a website and social media campaign and pledges to become shareholders.
The campaign team consists of eight local people, including a councillor, who have brought together a raft of business, marketing, accounting, IT knowledge.
They are not working alone however, with support coming from the likes of The Plunkett Foundation, CAMRA, and Pub is The Hub.
Rebecca said: "The response to our campaign so far has been nothing short of inspiring.
"We've already secured a significant number of pledges towards our fundraising target, and the passion and support from local people has been overwhelming.
"We have also got support from Tim Roca MP who is backing our campaign.
"At the recent Langley Village Fête, our team spoke to friends, neighbours, and supporters and one message came through loud and clear which was 'we don't want the pub turned into houses like so many other pubs around here have been'."

Tim Roca, MP for Macclesfield, added: "I'm proud to support the campaign to save the St Dunstan's Inn in Langley.
"It was a pleasure to meet Rebecca and the team, who are working tirelessly to secure the future of this much-loved local pub.
"Their efforts are all about preserving a vital community hub for everyone to enjoy."
Save the Dunstan's next public meeting will be held at Langley Cricket Club on Tuesday (August 12) from 6.30pm.
The committee will be sharing an update on the campaign and be answering any questions potential shareholders may have.
"Everyone is welcome to come along and get involved," said Rebecca.
