A water aficionado from Macclesfield has revealed how he hasn't drunk tap water for 12 years.

Doran Binder, 52, has refused to drink from the tap since 2013 and has vowed to never drink it again.

One of the UK's only certified water sommeliers, Doran gets paid hundreds of pounds to give his opinion on bottled water and even has his own spring.

He said: "Water is just like food - if you want to be healthy, you eat good quality stuff.

"Tap is unhealthy and I don't think it tastes very nice.

"The human body is 70 per cent water - the quality of the water impacts the human who's mainly water."

Doran added: "Water is all we need to put into our bodies - it's humankind's greatest gift.

"You don't need anything else - so why not enjoy what there is on offer.

"Water changes lives - I tell people you will never love tap but you will fall in love with natural mineral and spring."

Doran, from Wildboarclough, is one of three water sommeliers in the UK and qualified in 2021.

He took up the profession normally associated with wine after launching his own bottled water company, Crag Spring Water.

Doran set up the company in 2016 after finding an aquifer containing some of the world's finest water below the Crag Inn pub, which he had purchased as a home.

Now, bottled water companies from all over the world send Doran their water for him to try.

He also produces water menus for restaurants, highlighting different bottles that they should include.

"Water is finally getting the respect it deserves," Doran said.

"We are no longer in the era of still or sparkling - I think it is fantastic that people now get a choice which they can drink alongside their meal.

"The beverage menu found at restaurants is constantly expanding."

At the Crag Inn, Doran also does water tastings for £20 per person.

During a tasting he takes the customer through a water experience getting them to try waters from a range of TDS levels "opening a door" to its taste.

He said: "If you would have told me I'd be getting paid to teach people how to taste water I would never have believed you."
