Santa Claus is coming to town!

The elves at Macclesfield Roundtable are preparing to brave the frosty December nights with their much-loved Santa Sleigh.

Over 16 evenings, Saint Nick and his team of volunteers will visit neighbourhoods across Macclesfield, Bollington and the surrounding areas, spreading festive cheer and raising vital funds.

For long-standing Roundtable sleigh officer James Hogben, the event remains one of the most rewarding parts of the year.

He said: "I've been involved with the sleigh for 11 years now.

"Seeing the excitement on children's faces — and the many grown-ups who love it just as much — makes every cold night worthwhile.

"None of it could happen without our volunteers and Roundtable members giving up their evenings.

"A huge thank-you to everyone who makes it possible."

The sleigh has been given a makeover ahead of the 2025 run.

After more than a decade of use, the structure has been refurbished, fitted with a brighter lighting rig and a newly upgraded sound system, meaning residents should hear the sleigh long before they see it glowing down the street.

The work was made possible by a number of local supporters including Happy Valley Honey, Wickes, Travis Perkins, Spiral Print, Mike Birchall of Three Counties Leisure, and Hogbens Chartered Surveyors who have lent their vehicle for the month.

Last year, the sleigh raised more than £8,000 — funds that went on to support a range of community groups including Macclesfield Boys Boxing Club, local Scout units, Friends of Hollinhey, Bollington Cross PTA, Rossendale Trust and many others.

The Roundtable hopes the updated sleigh and community support will help them beat that figure this year.
