YouTube video shows rare look inside abandoned Macclesfield pub

A Macclesfield pub has been explored by YouTubers.

The long-dormant George and Dragon pub on Rainow Road has been explored in a 22-minute YouTube video by an urban explorer.

It has been empty for what feels like eons, poised on a busy Higher Hurdsfield road, with numerous false start planning attempts.

And the video shows that the building is indeed frozen in time, with decaying dartboards, soft drinks and fridges rotting away in the pub.

Signs are still visible, indicating you can double your spirit for £1. (Wouldn't that be nice in today's economy!)

The pub, which shut in the early 2010s, is thought to be over 400-years-old.

The video can be watched at the top of this article. Just click the 'Play' button.

Cheshire East Councillors Ken Edwards and John Place have reopened dialogue about the status of the building.

Macclesfield Nub News readers have been split on what they would like to see happen to the building, which was a victim of arson in 2015.

One reader suggested it should be "knocked down and turned into flats", while another suggested it should be an "inn with small restaurant and bar".

Plans to knock it down and replace it with five homes were rejected by Cheshire East Council last year, on heritage grounds.
