A football match has raised over £150,000 for charity.

Enterprise Rent-a-Car hosted a charity game at the Leasing.com Stadium earlier this month for Insurance United Against Dementia, in support of Alzheimer's Society.

More than 250 supporters from the insurance, fleet and accident repair sector came together on Thursday, May 7, to watch Stuart Sandell's Blues and Donna Scully's Yellows show off their football skills and raise money for a great cause.

As title sponsor of the National League, Enterprise invited players from throughout the industry to play on the same turf that saw Macclesfield FC beat Crystal Palace in the third round of the FA Cup in January this year.

Stuart, blue team coach and assistant vice president for sales at Enterprise, said: "Football has a way of bringing communities together – whether through the National League, which Enterprise proudly sponsors, or as demonstrated here, across an entire industry.

"I'd like to thank all our customers, colleagues, business partners and the teams from Insurance United Against Dementia and Alzheimer's Society who made this day such a success.

"It might not generate the same headlines as Macclesfield's giant killing of Crystal Palace in this year's FA Cup, but the enthusiasm shown by everyone involved and the buzz around the sector was and continues to be incredible and of course helped raise a significant sum for a truly vital cause."

Testing their fitness, stamina and skills, the two teams battled it out in a somewhat one-sided match that saw the yellow team win 11-2.

The match was an even bigger spectacle thanks to football legends Natasha Dowie and Becky Easton joining the coaching teams and showing off their skills on the pitch.

Every shirt in the match sported a number three, as a reminder that every three minutes, someone in the UK develops dementia.

Yellow team coach and owner/director of Carpenters Group, Donna, said: "As anyone who knows me will confirm, I believe in the power of sport, and specifically football, as a power for good. Sadly, almost everyone knows someone affected by dementia; it is a cruel and unforgiving disease.

"Today was such a brilliant opportunity to come together as an industry and fundraise while having a great time. We're strongest when we work together, and this event was a great example of what we can achieve when we do."

Insurance United Against Dementia is an Alzheimer's Society movement created and championed by leaders from across the insurance sector.

It has raised over £12m for the Society since 2017, with an ambitious new target to raise £20m by 2030.

This money will fund vital research, innovation and services to tackle dementia, the UK's leading cause of death.

Chris Lay, chair of Insurance United Against Dementia, said: "We are working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives.

"Thanks to the incredible support and energy of everyone involved, we've raised a fantastic sum that will help to accelerate progress in research and innovation, and provide services to prevent crisis, all while enjoying a great day of football."
