A Manchester United and England legend has been helping to raise money for a local charity.

The Macclesfield branch of the Manchester United Supporters Club (MUSC) recently welcomed Bryan Robson.

'Captain Marvel' reflected on his career, posed for photos and signed memorabilia as members raised money for To Macclesfield, Love Mia in association with Cardiac Risk in the Young.

A spokesperson for the Macclesfield MUSC committee said: "The evening was an unprecedented success in both attendance and contributions towards our raffle.

"Thanks to our members generosity, we not only raised awareness of this wonderful cause, we also raised a truly magnificent £3,212.68.

"With such a wonderful achievement we have to show appreciation to everyone involved and in addition to the committee, members and volunteers, thanks goes to local businesses that gave the prizes that allowed us to hit that amazing amount."

To Macclesfield, Love Mia was set up to support Cardiac Risk in the Young following the death of 19-year-old Mia Jennings.

Mia's life was tragically cut short after she suffered a cardiac arrest in January 2023.

Since then, well over £100,000 has been raised in memory of the teenager, who worked as a swimming teacher at Macclesfield Leisure Centre.

The latest fundraising event, organised by Macclesfield MUSC, was held at Broken Cross Club on Friday, May 1, with entertainment provided by Sonic Duo, DJ Michael Simpson, and Mark Newsome Magic.

Mia's father, James Jennigs, said: "Thanks to all who attended.

"Raising awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young is key, the donations will help our young people in Macclesfield."
