Robert Smethurst has resigned as director of Macclesfield FC.

The club made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon, August 5, with a statement explaining that Mr Smethurst is focusing on his 'personal interests'.

While stepping away from the board of directors, he will remain a shareholder.

"We respect the fact that Rob has other personal interests away from the football club, and by accepting his resignation, he is able to spend more time pursuing these," reads the club's statement.

"This administrative change has been processed and is now officially updated on the Companies House register.

"The club wishes to clarify that while Rob steps down from his day-to-day governance on the board of directors, he will remain a shareholder.

"In this capacity, we look forward to Rob's continued backing as we get ready for an exciting new season ahead."

According to the Companies House Register, there are now three directors at Macclesfield FC.

This includes Sarah Jane Smethurst, whom Mr Smethurst confirmed he was in the process of divorcing earlier this year.

Also listed are the club's sporting director, Jonathan Bull, and investor, Amarjit Singh Grewal.
