Football: Alex Bruce to leave Macclesfield after father gets a new job

An ex-Premier League player is leaving Macclesfield FC.

Alex Bruce (37), who came out of retirement to play in the defence of Macclesfield FC in August, has left the club with immediate effect.

It is as his football manager dad Steve Bruce (61) has been appointed manager of Championship side West Bromwich Albion.

This is Alex's first job in coaching. It is the third time he has worked for his Dad, having worked with him as a player for Birmingham City and Hull City.

Alex Bruce last played for Macclesfield FC in the starting eleven for the 2 - 1 victory against Litherland REMYCA.

In a statement, our town's new football club said: "Macclesfield FC can confirm that defender Alex Bruce has left the Club in order to take on a coaching role at West Bromwich Albion."

"Alex will assist in his father's backroom staff and he leaves with our very best wishes."

It is likely the central defender will never play for a club again, having moved to his first ever job in a coaching role.
