Macclesfield FC are recording home attendances to rival those of some English Football League teams, according to the official fan page.

Average crowds for league games at the Leasing.com Stadium see them sat in 88th position in the English football pyramid, higher than pro clubs like Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion.

The Silkmen are pulling in 3,114 fans per game in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division this season, from figures complied by the Official Macclesfield FC Fan Page, on Facebook.

John Steel, an administrator for the site, said: "It's phenomenal, really, when you think about it.

"I've seen on our own fan page that there's quite a lot of good reaction. I know Robbie Savage has shared it on Twitter as well."

The club director posted that more fans were attending Macclesfield FC league games than 11 clubs who play their games five steps up the football pyramid.

Mr Steel, who compiled the data added: "When you look at it in that context, it is completely unbelievable.

"It's a good endorsement of what's going on at the club, the investment, the atmosphere.

"The amount it has added to the community, there's so many people that benefit from the club, enjoy being at the club and the environment."

Steel's dad used to take him to games supporting the team, and ever since last year's Euros grabbed the nation's attention, his seven-year-old son Alex has now connected with the club and as a result, John is also behind them.

John conjured the results over a couple of hours, using data he obtained from Football Web Pages, a website dedicated to compiling matchday information.

Robbie Savage even asked him to find out such a figure.

Although attendances from Macclesfield FC are not included within Football Web Pages, John made his own calculations from crowds who have flocked to London Road this season.
