Investigation underway after flare thrown onto the pitch during Macclesfield v Buxton clash
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 2nd Jan 2026
An investigation has been launched after a flare was thrown onto the pitch during the derby match between Macclesfield and Buxton.
The Silkmen fell to a 2-0 defeat at home to local rivals Buxton on Boxing Day.
Since then, the visitors have released a statement, explaining that they are working with Cheshire Police and Macclesfield FC's security team to identify fans involved in an incident during the match, in which a flare was thrown onto the pitch.
"As clearly stated in several directives previously issued by Buxton FC, those identified will receive permanent bans from the Tarmac Silverlands Stadium and will be placed on a list shared with all clubs we visit, to encourage entry to be denied at all Buxton FC fixtures," reads the club's statement.
"The safety of every individual within the stadium is of paramount importance, and such actions, which are a criminal offence, will not be tolerated.
"We are determined to keep Buxton FC a safe, family-friendly club for everyone involved — players, officials, and supporters."
Cheshire Police have been contacted for further information.
