Two local clubs have teamed up to help sustain and grow grassroots cricket in the area.

Macclesfield Cricket Club has announced a new partnership with Kerridge Cricket Club.

Last season, Kerridge faced the difficult prospect of being unable to fulfil fixtures due to a shortage of players.

This partnership will see Macclesfield loan Kerridge players when needed, ensuring the side can continue to compete while providing valuable playing opportunities for Macclesfield's members.

John Grayston, chairman of Kerridge CC, said: "2023 was the centenary year for Kerridge Cricket Club, as a small village club maintaining a senior playing squad has become increasingly difficult in recent years.

"Last season was particularly challenging—with a small playing squad, we struggled to fulfil all of our fixture list.

"We appreciate the enthusiasm with which Macclesfield CC has come to our assistance and look forward to forming a strong working relationship.

"It's a great example of community sporting clubs working together to keep grassroots sport thriving."

Head of cricket at Macclesfield CC, Richard Nash, added: "This is a great example of how local clubs can work together for the benefit of the game.

"Kerridge is a brilliant club with a rich history, and we're delighted to support them while also offering valuable first-team experience to our younger players, lady cricketers, and senior members who may not always get the chance to play at the highest level.

"This partnership ensures that more players get the opportunity to test themselves in competitive matches, which is crucial for their development.

"It's a win-win for both clubs and the wider cricketing community."
