Macclesfield: Fancy a day out in Prestbury? Major cricket tourney starts this weekend
By Tim Taylor Publicity
Prestbury Cricket Club hosts one of the village's most anticipated social sporting occasions of the year on Sunday.
The Prestbury 6s will feature eight teams and the first round draw is: Village Club v The Fox Hole, AFC Prestbury Team 2 v George's Band of Brothers, Prestbury School PTA v The Admiral Rodney, AFC Prestbury Team 1 v Macclesfield Rugby Club.
Said development chair Bill Livesley: "It's fast paced novelty cricket from 11 in the morning until around 7.0 in the evening and there are usually five non cricketers in each team and only one cricketer, all great knockabout fun."
Club chair Nick Taylor said: "It has recently dawned on us that even many Prestbury residents don't know where their lovely tree lined cricket ground is located.
"There is a sign in the heart of village in between The Foxhole and Bacchus.
"You go through there, bear left and follow the path up to the ground.
"Anybody who comes on Sunday who has not been before is in for a treat. It's a gem."
The club recently turned 150 years old.
