Macclesfield FC confirm pre-season schedule including Ethan McLeod tribute match vs Wolves
By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 3rd Jun 2026
Macclesfield FC have confirmed the details of their 2026/27 pre-season schedule.
Preparations are underway as John Rooney's side gear up for another year in the National League North.
Ahead of the opening day in August, the Silkmen will play five friendly matches, including a standout tie against Wolverhampton Wanderers, who recently suffered relegation from the Premier League.
A Wolves XI will travel to the Leasing.com Stadium on Saturday, July 18, in what will no doubt be an emotional day, as the two clubs remember former player Ethan McLeod.
A statement released by Macclesfield reads: "Ethan's family will play a prominent part in the day with his brother Connor expected to feature for Wolves.
"We are eternally grateful to Ethan's family and to Wolves for their support in arranging this fixture to celebrate the life of Ethan and ensure his legacy will live on here at the Leasing.com Stadium."
The Silkmen's first team pre-season begins at home on Saturday, July 4, against Hyde United, led by former Macclesfield manager Michael Clegg.
Macclesfield make the short journey to Leek Town ten days later to be put through their paces once more on the Tuesday evening at the F.Ball Community Stadium.
A week after the Wolves clash, on Saturday, July 26, Altrincham will host the Silkmen in a match loosely described as a friendly.
The club's pre-season will conclude where it starts, at Moss Rose, against FC United of Manchester, with Rooney expected to field a strong side with his first league starting XI in mind.
Supporters will be able to attend all of the fixtures for a small entry fee, still to be confirmed.
