Macclesfield FC sign two young forwards, ahead of FA Cup opener

A pair of attacking 20-year-olds have joined Macclesfield FC.

Both come from higher divisions, which is hard to come by for most clubs which sign new players in the North West Counties Football League.

This should make Macc a force to be reckoned with, in a squad that now has eight forwards.

Firstly, Yorkshireman Kielen Adams joins from Northern Premier League Division One West side Clitheroe.

The Huddersfield-born player was the first to sign on Thursday evening. The powerful striker signed a contract of an undisclosed fee and length.

Kielen has made one first team appearance in the Football League, but was purchased after banging in goals for Clitheroe.

Macclesfield FC released a club statement about the 19th Englishman to sign for our club: "Kielen came through the youth ranks at Oldham Athletic and would spend four years at Boundary Park, before crossing the Pennines in 2017 to join Bradford City."

"Graduating from the youth setup at Valley Parade in 2019, Kielen would then return to Oldham in order to sign his first professional contract.

"Loan spells at Chorley and Hyde United ensued before the tenacious striker joined Pitching In Northern Premier League West Division side Clitheroe in 2020.

"With last season decimated by the impact of COVID-19, Kielen arrives at the Leasing.com Stadium eager to hit the ground running."

The second player to sign, and 24th squad player for Macc was an English loanee.

Macclesfield FC have signed footballer James Berry-McNally as their first-ever loan player.

He was snapped up from National League side Altrincham, who he signed a permanent deal with earlier on Thursday.

The youngster joined the Manchester club from EFL Championship side Hull City, and has been sent to Macclesfield to compete for a first-team place and get gametime.

He made one senior appearance for Grant McCann's side in February 2020, but hasn't played senior football during the pandemic.

The forward, who was born in Wigan in December 2000, will be in Macclesfield for just over four months.

"Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce the loan signing of James Berry-McNally, who has agreed a deal at the Leasing.com Stadium until January 2022," said the club.

"After being released by Hull City earlier in the summer, James signed for National League side Altrincham earlier today and was immediately loaned out to help bolster Danny Whitaker's side.

"Starting his career at Liverpool, James went on to sign scholarship forms with hometown club Wigan Athletic in December 2016.

"After agreeing compensation with The Latics, James then made the move to Hull City in November 2019 and would make his First Team debut three months later during the Championship clash against Blackburn Rovers.

"James was released by The Tigers this summer, before signing for The Robins a short time ago.

"We would like to thank everyone at Moss Lane for their help in securing James' loan move."

Both new players will be available for Macc's FA Cup opener against Burscough on Saturday.

The Silkmen have had an unbeaten start to the season, for which Kielen and James will hope to continue.
