A teen prodigy has signed for Macc, to strengthen Macclesfield's defence after conceding four goals in two games.

Louis Shead is the 23rd summer signing, after other recent recruit Aaron Fleming.

Shead is the seventh defender for our town's new football club. He'll hope to help stop goals from hitting the next, as Macclesfield FC pushes for promotion.

The Silkmen have had a strong start to the season, but have let in the joint second most goals in the league, despite their unbeaten record.

Our town's new club beat Burscough in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division by one goal on Saturday. Winger Leon Arnasalam tapped in the only goal, which was the first-ever competitive goal for our club.

It was followed by a 4-4 draw at Winsford United on Tuesday, at our county rivals' Barton Stadium.

Louis Shead is a commanding defender, and was captain of Tranmere Rovers academy. He is the sixth English defender to sign for our town's new football club.

"Macclesfield FC are delighted to unveil the signing of 18-year-old defender Louis Shead, after he agreed a deal with the Club earlier today.

"Louis began his career at Blackpool and would go on to progress through the youth ranks at Tranmere Rovers.

"The commanding centre-half is a natural leader and captained many of the youth sides at Prenton Park.

"A resolute and dependable presence within the defence, Louis undoubtedly has a bright future in the game and we are delighted to welcome him to the Leasing.com Stadium.

"Louis will be available for selection ahead of this weekend's Emirates FA Cup tie against Burscough and we will be catching up with him shortly to discuss the move."

An interview with Macc's new player will be posted to YouTube in due course.

Macclesfield's next game is at their London Road ground, and is against Irlam on August 14.
