A Macclesfield FC trialist has penned a permanent deal of an unknown length, as Macc's twentieth summer signing.
Spaniard Rodney Ajayi (25) has played exclusively in the north west, but Macclesfield FC will be the first Cheshire club he has played for.
Also known as 'Sidi', the six foot two inches tall midfielder will provide an imposing presence for Macc's first team, and can also be employed at centre-back.
Rodney began his career at Stockport County, where he was nicknamed 'The Spider', a compliment to his speed and coverage on the pitch.
After rising through the youth ranks, Ajayi made the move to Stockport Sports in 2014.
A move to Avro was next, who are divisional rivals for Macclesfield FC in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division.
He would then enjoy two seasons at North West Counties League Division One North side Atherton Labernum Rovers. He played for The Panthers between 2016-18.
Rodney then left the Greater Manchester club, located near Wigan, to a club closer to Manchester city centre, playing for North West Counties League Division One South side West Didsbury & Chorlton A.F.C.
He now moves up a division with the new signing for our town's new football club.
The club said in a statement:
"Macclesfield FC are delighted to announce that midfielder Rodney Ajayi has agreed a deal with the Club following a successful trial period."
"Spending the last two campaigns at West Didsbury and Chorlton, Rodney bring a wealth of experience to the Leasing.com Stadium and is a welcome addition to our First Team squad."
Macc's new signing is the 21st player to sign up for their squad, and the second Iberian player after Portugese forward Edy Maieco.
The outfield player may play in Macc's fineal pre-season fixture tomorrow, where FC United of Manchester will come to the Leasing.com Stadium.
Macclesfield FC drew 1-1 with Rodney's former club Stockport County on Saturday.
They were our club's strongest opponent yet, being a National League side that is four layers above the football pyramid than Macclesfield.
Rodney's signing follows two goalkeepers penning a contract earlier in the month.
