A youth football club in Macclesfield have won a trophy at the weekend.

Tytherington Juniors FC Under 8s have just won the Manchester Youth Super League's League Cup, establishing them as one of the best youth football clubs in the north west.

Tythy's under eights team beat Stockport County 6-2 at the Leasing.com Stadium, home of Macclesfield FC, whose various teams have also secured silverware this season.

Manager Matt O Brien was proud of the performance of all players.

The Mayor of Macclesfield cheered on the team, and presented the trophy. It is his penultimate weekend as Mayor.

"We had the Mayor David Edwardes presenting the boys with the trophy," he said.

"My Grandad was also there. He is Macc FC and Tytherington Juniors' oldest fan."

"My son was also playing. So proud of this little legend and his pals!"

The community grassroots football club turns 35 this year.

Ken Sparkes is the club's oldest fan at aged 93.

The Mayor - who is also from Tytherington - jokingly hoisted the trophy over his head in celebration before handing the cup to the kids.

Tytherington Juniors are currently looking for new players (in Year 3).
