Macclesfield FC's record goal scorer has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Danny Elliott has released a statement confirming he will not feature again for the Silkmen in the 2025/26 campaign.

The forward has missed the past five games, having sustained an injury during the club's Boxing Day defeat to Buxton.

Unfortunately, the injury is 'much worse than first feared', bringing the prolific striker's season to an 'abrupt end'.

Elliott said: "I feel so blessed however to be part of such a great club and group of lads, who have all been so supportive when learning of my fate, and I'm so thankful to have been surrounded by amazing people who have allowed me to focus purely on my recovery, by also providing with the security of a new deal with the club.

"I'm delighted to have agreed terms to remain with the Silkmen for at least another two seasons.

"The faith the club and everyone associated with it has in me is so humbling and I'm so grateful for all the lovely messages I've since received."

He continued: "To have known deep down that I likely wouldn't have been able to play a further part in this season was so difficult, praying that my gut feeling was wrong and despite my best efforts to play through the pain barrier, it would've been the wrong thing to do in terms of how best to recover.

"Now this has been confirmed, I have to listen both to my body, the physio team here at Macclesfield and the medical professionals who have advised me incredibly well through this process.

"I feel deeply fortunate to have been given such an early date for an operation to help repair the damage, which I underwent successfully last week. In the aftermath of this I am now spending a significant amount of time resting and rehabilitating, in order to be back better and stronger than ever.

"During this time I'll still be cheering on the lads from the touchline, as we look to continue our historic Emirates FA Cup run and have a strong finish to the Enterprise National League North season.

"I would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding once again at this time and I hope to be back playing for the Silkmen as soon as I'm ready to go again!"
