Macclesfield FC's upcoming match has been postponed following the death of forward Ethan McLeod.

The 21-year-old passed away after being involved in a crash on the M1 while on his way home from the Silkmen's 2-1 win away at Bedford Town.

As a result of this tragic news, the club has announced that Saturday's (December 20) Enterprise National League North fixture at Alfreton Town has been postponed.

"We would like to thank everyone at Alfreton Town and the National League for their support and understanding," read a statement shared on the Macclesfield FC Facebook page.

"A new date will be set in due course."

The club has now opened a book of condolence to allow supporters to pay their respects.

Located in Bar Twenty Seven, it is available to sign on all non-matchdays from 4pm to 8pm on weekdays and between 1pm and 6pm on weekends.

The book will later be shared with Ethan's family.

A Macclesfield FC spokesperson added: "Everyone at Macclesfield FC continues to be in a state of deep mourning following the sudden and tragic loss of Ethan McLeod.

"It is no exaggeration to say that the news has rocked our club from top to bottom, as we all try to come to terms with something that words could never describe.

"Supporters are now able to pay their respects via a book of condolence, which will be shared with Ethan's devoted family."
