A parish near Macclesfield has unveiled a new bowling green clubhouse.

On Saturday 13th May 2023 the new Goostrey Crown Green Bowls Clubhouse at Booth Bed Lane was officially opened by Ian O'Donoghue, Chairman, Goostrey Parish Council and Fiona Bruce MP.

The new clubhouse is just down the road from Macclesfield's Jodrell Bank, in the parish of Goostrey.

In a statement, the club said: "The well-attended event was a great success and the weather was beautiful throughout the day. We would like to extend a big thank you to all those who made this event possible."

Club officials, Mike Clapp and Derek Hurdle (in the hat) with local Cheshire East Cllr Russell Chadwick (at the back) and local MP Fiona Bruce.

Goostrey Village Playing Fields are a community owned facility and part of Goostrey Village Hall and Playing Fields Foundation (a charitable trust).

The brand-new structure replaces old temporary facilities which were beyond repair. The new facilities include a visitor and home team covered area together with a new members area providing a welcoming reception.

The club is looking for new members. Currently there are five bowling teams comprising eight players per team playing in five local bowling leagues.

The bowling green is beautifully kept by members and is a real credit to the club. Further details can be found at online or by telephoning: 01477 534160

If you want to play, the current Bowls Club Secretary Ken Heaton can also be contacted via [email protected].
