Plans are in place for Macclesfield FC's title celebrations.

The Silkmen narrowly missed out on clinching the Northern Premier League Premier Division title on Saturday (March 15).

Having claimed a comprehensive 4-0 victory away at Morpeth Town, Robbie Savage's side needed Worksop Town to drop points at home to Hyde United.

Unfortunately, two late goals from the hosts means Macclesfield can't celebrate promotion just yet.

Nevertheless, with a 20-point gap and just 21 points to play for, hopes are high that Macclesfield can get the job done this Saturday against Bamber Bridge.

However, captain Paul Dawson will have to wait until next month to get his hands on the trophy.

The club confirmed this morning (March 17) that following discussions with the Northern Premier League and relevant committees, 'if' they are to win the league, then the trophy lift will be after the home game with Whitby Town on Saturday, April 26.

Until then, Savage wants to see 'no let-ups' from his players.

He said: "First and foremost, we've got to think about ourselves, never mind results elsewhere.

"For us, a 4-0 win away from home against a team who are third in the form guide [and] who beat us last year - wow.

"The narrative for me was to beat the teams who beat us last year. We went to Worksop on the opening day and won, and we've come here and won.

"There's going to be no let-up from us. We want to break through the 100-point mark."

No team has reached 100 points in the Northern Premier League's top division since Blyth Spartans in 2016/17 - when there were 46 games played per season, as opposed to 42.

"We're one win away, and deep down, when Worksop scored I had a big smile because if we would've won it today, it would've been great, but to win [the title] in front of 4,500 at home will be an incredible thing," added Savage.

"Bamber Bridge will be a tough test and they'll be up for it, but what an opportunity for those lads to bring their families [and] to see them hopefully become champions.

"After the heartache of seeing Marine celebrate on our pitch last season, for the group to be able to do that would be amazing."
