A rising cricket star from Macclesfield will represent England.

King's School pupil Joe Moores will join the Under 19s one day squad for an upcoming tour of South Africa.

The 16-year-old has been part of Macclesfield Cricket Club for as long as he has been able to hold a bat.

He has risen through the club's academy to become a standout all-rounder, excelling as a batsman, wicketkeeper, fielder and spin bowler.

Richard Nash, head of cricket at Macclesfield Cricket Club, said: "All of Joe's coaches, past and present, are absolutely thrilled.

"We're not just proud of the cricketer he's becoming, but also the person he is.

"Joe is a credit to himself, his family, and everyone who has been part of his cricketing journey."

Richard added: "While this is an exciting milestone, it's also just the beginning.

"Macclesfield Cricket Club will continue to provide Joe with a supportive home for life - championing his progress every step of the way.

"We look forward to following his development on the England U19 tour and beyond."

Joe, who is in year 11, has cricket in his blood and looks set to become one of the finest talents Macclesfield has ever produced – no small feat given the club's proud history.

His father, Steve, captained Macclesfield and serves as head of cricket at King's, while his uncle, Peter, is head coach of Nottinghamshire and has worked with England twice.

Joe's selection for the three-match ODI series follows a superb season with the Lancashire Academy and regional squads, including a memorable unbeaten 139 off just 79 balls for The North U18s.

Young Lions Head Coach, Michael Yardy, said: "After putting in a lot of purposeful work on a really good camp before Christmas, we get the opportunity to play against South Africa Under-19s, which will be very exciting for the boys competing in an England shirt."
