Street dancers have been flying the flag for Macclesfield.

Sylk Dance Academy recently competed in the SOAR British Championships at the BEC Arena in Manchester, having earned their place via a regional qualifier.

A team of 19 boys and girls aged nine to 18 competed in teams, solos, duos, battles and quads over the course of the three day event, which ran from March 6 to 8.

Sylk Dance also had the opportunity to take part in workshops hosted by some of the best choreographers and judges from across the country.

Principal Amy Mayers said: "The British Championships are incredibly challenging as it's the best dancers from all over the UK.

"To have our dancers from Macclesfield placing top five out of sometimes up to 50 dancers is phenomenal!

"As the principal of Sylk Dance I'd like to thank all our teachers for the hard work they put in to our students and preparing them for the event.

"However, it's not just about winning, it's about being inspired by the other amazing dancers, growing & learning from the experience and most importantly, making wonderful memories!

"We are now accepting new members in our street dance classes! Perhaps your child could be next year's British Champion?"
