OPINION: Why Global Justice Macclesfield continue to hold silent vigils for Palestine
The UN has recently endorsed the Trump 20-point peace plan for Gaza so why are we continuing to hold silent vigils to remember the Palestinians?
I could talk about the fragility of the peace, the number of Palestinians still being killed in Gaza and the West Bank by the Israeli Defence Force, that humanitarian aid is still being heavily restricted or the huge amount of detail in the peace plan that still needs resolving.
However instead here is the story of Abdelrahman as told by Fergal Keane the BBC foreign correspondent.
In brief his leg was amputated following an Israeli bombing of the school he and his mum were sheltering in.
His mental health deteriorated and he was self harming.
He was airlifted to Jordan for a prosthetic limb and while there was given an ancient middle eastern stringed instrument, an oud, a predecessor to the guitar.
The oud helped him to recover mentally.
On returning to Gaza the Israeli soldiers searched the car and took the oud from Abdulrahman because it was not 'essential humanitarian aid'.
This crushing of human life is the daily lived experience for many Palestinians in Gaza and The West Bank and just one of the reasons we continue to hold our silent vigil.
Global Justice Macclesfield's most recent silent vigil took place on Friday, December 5.
