A professional dancer is looking to bring more opportunities to Macclesfield with the opening of her new studio.

Jordon Leigh Studios will open its doors at Park House on Hurdsfield Road in October.

Founder and principal Jordon Day says she was inspired to take this exciting next step by her daughter.

The 32-year-old said: "I'm honestly so excited, it still feels quite surreal.

"Getting to this point has taken a lot personally as well as professionally. There have been a lot of sacrifices over the years, particularly while growing a business and being a single mum.

"My daughter is my biggest motivation behind everything I do. For her to grow up watching me build something from the bottom and now take on a studio like this means a lot to me.

"I want her to grow up knowing that you can create something for yourself and chase what you want, regardless of where you start."

Macclesfield born and raised, Jordon started dancing at an early age and has been teaching since she was 15-years-old.

As a professional dancer herself, she has worked with artists such as Tulisa from N-Dubz and passes this experience on to her students.

In 2016, age just 22, she founded the Jordon Leigh Dance Academy.

"I had danced all my life and had already been teaching for a number of years, but when I had my daughter in 2016 it really pushed me to create something of my own," she said.

"I realised quite quickly it was going to become my career because there genuinely wasn't anything else I was as passionate about. Dance and teaching have always been the things I've wanted to do."

Starting with 20 students at Silktown Muscle, the school has grown over the years and now welcomes around 90 dancers every week.

Having called The Green, just off Buxton Road, home for the past three years, the time has come for Jordon to take the next step.

She said: "I'm at a point now where I want the business to grow further and, more importantly, I want to bring more dance opportunities into Macclesfield.

"At the moment, dancers who want to take their training more seriously often have to travel towards places such as Stockport and Manchester.

"One of my biggest goals with the new studio is to start bringing more of that dance industry training into Macclesfield, rather than our dancers always having to travel elsewhere.

"I want to bring professional dancers, choreographers and teachers into Macclesfield and create more opportunities locally for young dancers who want to progress.

"Staying in Macclesfield was really important to me because my entire business has been built here. The academy is for the dancers of Macclesfield and the surrounding areas, and I want the new studio to create even more opportunities for the next generation of dancers here. "

Jordon and the team are busy renovating the new premises, with an opening party planned for Friday, October 9.

"We had been looking for somewhere bigger, and as soon as I walked into the new premises I knew it was what I wanted," Jordon said.

"Seeing my name on the building was definitely one of those 'I actually did it' moments.

"When I think about opening the doors for the first time, I feel excited, proud and still a little bit like it isn't real yet.

"If you'd told the 22-year-old me, when I first started Jordon Leigh Dance Academy with around 20 students and three classes, that 10 years later I would have my own large studio in Macclesfield with my name on the building, I genuinely don't think I would have believed you."

Once up and running, the studio will become the new home of Jordon Leigh Dance Academy.

Specialising mainly in street and commercial dance, the academy has grown into much more than a weekly children's class.

They now boast competition squads, adult classes and toddlers sessions, while Jordon also works with adults with special educational needs and disabilities.

Looking ahead, she is planning to expand her team and host holiday clubs, workshops, specialist sessions and classes with guest teachers, including industry professionals.

The space will also be available for outside hire for things such as classes, rehearsals and parties.

Jordon added: "Ultimately, I want it to become much more than just somewhere people come for one dance class a week.

"I want it to become a real dance hub for Macclesfield."
