Macclesfield is preparing for a half term break packed full of Halloween haunts.

The main event of this year's celebrations will see the Town Council host their annual Spooky Saturday event.

Expect crafts, games, an immersive Harry Potter experience and the return of the popular Pumpkin Trail, with over 50 local businesses taking part.

Events manager Jen Holland said: "I am thrilled at the fantastic mix of elements we have lined up for Spooky Saturday this year.

"We have got a few new elements as well as some old favourites.

"The free buses will be running on the day, and it would be great to see as many people as possible in town enjoying what we have planned."

Ghost walks and heavy metal music

The fearsome festivities get started on Thursday, October 29, as Wild Heart Arts Club host a 'Scrap & Yap Spooky Special' junk journalling workshop at Lobby on Chestergate.

Then, on Friday, head over to Belong Macclesfield from 5pm and enjoy a cheese and wine event with plenty of Halloween spirit.

Later in the evening, you can join Paradise Mill guide Tina Russell-Cruise for a supernatural walking tour around Macclesfield.

Learn about the ghostly horses of the Jordangate and the headless spectre of St George's, while also getting a chance to explore the Silk Museum's Ancient Egypt gallery after hours.

On Halloween night itself, Mash Guru on Back Wallgate is surely the place to be.

Local band Sigils will be headlining a night of heavy metal music, supported by Brute Allies and Doctor Black.

Family fun

For the little ghouls and gargoyles, Room for Comics are hosting a special spooky badge making drop-in session.

All materials will be provided, with the workshop suitable for ages 5+.

For those with younger children, the new Baby Social Club will be holding a Halloween-themed development class on Thursday, October 29.

Tickets also cover Halloween treats and a welcome drink, a DIY trick-or-treat bag, themed crafts and sensory trays.

And if you can't wait that long, Tytherington Club will stage Friendly Frankenstein's Halloween Party on Sunday, October 25.

Pumpkin picking

Of course, Halloween wouldn't be complete without a pumpkin and thankfully for us here in Macclesfield, there are plenty of places nearby to go and pick your own.

Libby's Patch Farm in Gawsworth is in the midst of its 'biggest pumpkin season yet', with 76 varieties to choose from.

Pye Ash Farm in Bosley, meanwhile, say they have planted more pumpkins than ever before.

Alongside the pumpkin patch and maze, families can enjoy sheepdog demonstrations, marshmallow toasting and face painting.

Meanwhile, those looking for a fright can head over to Seven Sisters Farm where the scare maze is making a return.

On select evenings, the 'posh ice cream' farm will be staying open late with live DJs and a gourmet BBQ.
