The Bollington Bikefest is going virtual this year in response to the coronavirus restrictions to raise money for local causes.

In its ninth year, the Bikefest has proved to be a popular event in Bollington and organisers are looking local cyclists to take part in in this new virtual way.

East Cheshire NHS Trust staff are playing a vital role in a major trial to see if bio-detection dogs can sniff out coronavirus in humans.

The trial, led by the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) in collaboration with the charity Medical Detection Dogs and Durham University, will determine whether dogs could be used as a new rapid, non-invasive diagnostic tool for the virus. The first phase is funded by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Firefighters have been tackling a large fire at a disused mansion on Beech Lane throughout the night.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue say when they arrived at the scene shortly after 7pm yesterday the three-storey building was "well alight" and resulted in the closure of Beech Lane which remains in place.
