'Where do I even begin?' Life Drawing Skills Workshop

One-Day Skills Workshop

Sat 25th April

10:30 am - 4:30 pm

Since launching Now, Draw! I've had lots of messages from people saying they'd love to try Life Drawing but "don't know how to draw" or feel unsure where to start.

This fun and informative workshop is my answer to that.

You'll leave with a clearer process and practical tools you can use straight away in a standard Life Drawing class.

This day is designed for:

  • Complete beginners!
  • People who draw regularly but feel they've missed key foundations or would like a refresher
  • People who want to try different ways of starting a drawing

Maybe you:

  • Don't know how to start or place a drawing on the page
  • Panic with quick poses
  • Get bogged down with details
  • Always draw the head too big or run out of paper halfway down the legs
  • Avoid foreshortening completely

Join me, Susannah, for a practical, supportive one-day workshop covering the core skills of drawing from a professional life model (in person, not a photograph).

We'll work through:

  • Which materials to use
  • Approaches to quick poses
  • Introduction to proportion, foreshortening and simple measuring
  • Composition on the page
  • Basic tonal work
  • Alternative ways to begin a drawing

Through live demonstrations, one-to-one guidance, and plenty of drawing time, you'll develop a clear starting process you can return to again and again.

If you've been curious about life drawing but didn't know where to begin. Or you've been teaching yourself and want to fill in the gaps - this workshop will help you develop skills to move forward with confidence.

Materials provided.

Arrival The session is from 10:30am - 4:30pm. Please arrive around 10 minutes before the start time so you can be buzzed in, settle yourself, and get set up ready to begin at the start time.

Bring a packed lunch or go out in Macclesfield.

Before you book, please read through the Frequently Asked Questions.

If you are younger than 18 please see FAQs.

About the Space

The session will take place at The Wellbeing Space, a light, calm studio in a beautifully converted mill. The room is airy and thoughtfully designed, with plants, soft lighting, and a variety of seating options.

It's a space created for wellbeing classes and workshops. It is a quiet place to focus and draw.

  • The space is accessed via a set of stairs, unfortunately there is no lift access
  • There are toilets available for use during the session
  • this is a shoes-off space, so feel free to bring warm socks.
  • Refreshments - free tea and coffee
  • Materials - A range of drawing materials will be available to use during the class. These are loaned for the session and must be returned at the end. Your drawings, of course, are yours to keep. You are welcome to bring your own too. Please see the FAQs for more information about what you can and can't use.
  • Three minutes walk from Macclesfield Train Station. 22 minutes from Manchester Piccadilly, 11 minutes from Stockport.
