North West-based rhythm tap company Sole Rebel will bring its distinctive, music-led approach to dance to this year's Macclesfield 1261 Festival, with an interactive family workshop and live performances.

Sole Rebel is a touring tap dance company that explores tap as a musical instrument, rooted in rhythm, improvisation and the rich history of jazz. The company delivers performances and participatory workshops across the UK, introducing audiences of all ages to the expressive possibilities of rhythm tap.

Recently, they have delivered workshops at Womad Festival 2023 and 2024, Shakespeare North Playhouse in 2024 and Green Man Festival 2025.

At Macclesfield 1261 Festival 2026, Sole Rebel will deliver a lively, family-friendly workshop celebrating jazz music and tap dance, at Townley Hall. Designed especially for children aged 3-14 and their grown-ups, the session invites participants to explore rhythm through body percussion and movement, regardless of experience.

The workshop will be followed by two short performances from Sole Rebel Macclesfield's students, showcasing local talent and offering a glimpse into the work of the company. Craft and colouring activities will also be available for those who prefer to take part more informally.

Sole Rebel Macclesfield is led by Julia Cooper, a dance artist, dance educator and drummer based in Bollington.
