Macclesfield Oriana Choir invites you to their concert performance of Merrie England by Edward German.
Merrie England, a sparkling, light hearted comic opera, was composed by Edward German and first performed in 1902.
Set during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the story follows the romantic rivalries and intrigues when a secret love letter wrongly falls into the Queen's hands.
This light Opera is celebrated for its luscious melodies, appealing harmonies, dramatic choruses, and nostalgic patriotism.
In addition to featuring Macclesfield Oriana Choir, the town's longest established choral society, the concert brings together assorted guest vocal soloists, local classical singers, and renowned pianist Roderick Barrand.
