Local Young Performers Prepare to Take Centre Stage in 13 JR. This Week
The spotlight is set to shine on some of Macclesfield's talented young performers this week as Perform Studios Academy presents 13 JR. at The King's School from Thursday 16 to Saturday 18 July.
Featuring a cast of local children and teenagers aged 11 to 16, the production celebrates the energy, humour and challenges of growing up, while showcasing the incredible talent being developed right here in the local community.
13 JR., based on the hit Broadway musical, follows Evan Goldman as he navigates friendships, fitting in and the ups and downs of teenage life after moving from New York to small-town Indiana. Packed with catchy songs, laugh-out-loud moments and heartfelt themes, the show explores everything from first crushes and friendship groups to the pressures of growing up – making it a musical that audiences of all ages can relate to.
For Director Nicola Jay Crooks, the production is about much more than simply putting on a show.
"This production is a real celebration of our young people," she said. "Teenagers often get a bad reputation, but this show highlights their humour, heart, resilience and individuality. Our cast have worked incredibly hard and it has been wonderful to watch their confidence and friendships grow throughout the rehearsal process."
The production also shines a light on the thriving performing arts scene in Macclesfield, giving local young people the opportunity to perform in a full-scale musical production while developing valuable life skills including teamwork, communication and confidence.
To celebrate opening night, Perform Studios Academy is also launching a special ticket promotion.
For one day only, all tickets will be reduced to just £13 for 13 hours, with the offer running from 11:00am until midnight today. The discounted tickets can be used for any performance across the show's run.
With four performances taking place over three days, audiences can expect an uplifting evening of live theatre, plenty of laughs and the chance to support the next generation of local performers.
