An employee of Prestbury Co-op is to skydive to thank the doctors which saved her life.

June Jackson, from Bollington, will plunge from a plane to raise money for Royal Stoke University Hospital.

She wants to raise £5,000 for the Hospital which gave her vital cardiac surgery in April 2020, after noticing unusual symptoms for the best part of a year.

June had wanted to do something sooner, but her recovery and the pandemic halted the plans to the skydiving date confirmed for next month.

"On Friday 19th May, I will be joined by friends and work colleagues from Co-op Food to skydive to raise funds for the Cardiology Unit at Royal Stoke University Hospital," she said.

"The Hospital is currently under-going refurbishment to improve and enhance patient care and treatments as the technology is constantly evolving.

"In Spring 2019 I became poorly; sickness, weight loss, constant coughing and breathing difficulties were destroying my mental and physical health. Normally fit and active, I was devastated when suddenly in January 2020 after returning from a walk and becoming short of breath; I was admitted to hospital by emergency paramedics.

"An infection had damaged two heart valves resulting in cardiac arrest. Arrangements were made immediately for me to have surgery at Stoke University hospital to repair one and replace the other damaged valve.

"This coincided with the biggest nightmare our NHS has witnessed; COVID-19.

"As I arrived at the hospital in April 2020, I was informed to enter the building alone, as lockdown had just commenced.

"My surgery was successful, and the care I received during my stay was brilliant, despite the tough times being faced by all, they truly went above and beyond. This is my way of saying thank you.

"Please give what you can to enable Stoke University Hospital to remain a centre of excellence in cardiac care."

June worked at Bollington Co-op for five years until February, and has just moved to Prestbury Co-op. She's also previously worked at the Westmorland Close store in Macclesfield.

June will be joined in the plane by former Bollington Wellington Road Co-op Manager Dan Atta, who suggested the skydive.

Current Bollington Co-op employees Jack Martin and Lauren Whitting will also jump with June, as will another former Co-op colleague who - ironically - is now training to be a paramedic.

"To those who donate, thank you. Whatever they choose to give is worth every penny, because of the kind of work they do," added June.

The jump will take place in Whitchurch, Shropshire. Bollington Co-op staff Jack (centre) and Lauren (right) are among the colleagues joining June (left) in the brave charity endeavour. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"I love working for the Co-op as they are community-minded, and some of the nicest people I've met are through the Co-op."
