January exercise routines can be boring. So want to try something new in Macclesfield?

A brand new way to play netball is coming to Macclesfield this month.

You've heard of walking football, but how about walking netball?

Macclesfield Leisure Centre, of Priory Lane, will be relaunching their walking netball sessions, courtesy of Everybody Sport and Recreation.

Walking Netball is a slower version of the well-loved game, but at a walking pace.

People across the length of the country have started playing Walking Netball for the fun, laughter and camaraderie the social session brings, as much as the health benefits on offer. And now, it comes to Macclesfield.

Walking Netball will be launching at Macclesfield Leisure Centre on Tuesday January 11, 10am – 11am, for all adults.

The weekly event will also serve as a small social group, for you to make new friends with in 2022.

The sessions have been designed so that anyone can play it regardless of age or fitness level. From those who have dropped out of the sport they love due to serious injury, to those who believed they had hung up their netball trainers many years ago. Both proving the new take on the sport has wide appeal.

It can give those who feel isolated an outlet, provide an activity for those who do not deem themselves fit enough to run anymore and offer a stepping stone for those looking for a pathway back into netball.

Walking Netball sessions are designed to be fun and flexible, and largely follow the same formats as any other netball session, including a warm-up, mini-games and drills followed by a friendly game.

You do not need any special kit to take part, just clothes that you feel comfortable exercising in and suitable footwear (ideally trainers that lace up) and make sure you bring some water to your session.

Nichola Foulkes 'Cheshire Netball Development Officer' is excited for the new group.

"Walking Netball is a light-hearted version of the game, every week is filled with wiggles and giggles," she said.

"Sessions are designed for all ages and abilities, there is no pressure to join in with any more than you are comfortable with and can be a great stepping stone to meeting new people, boosting your mood, increasing your activity levels and having lots of fun."
