2022 is in full swing, and we're looking ahead to how our town will grow throughout the year.

Whether it is new arrivals to our high street, or big events, here are six new things we can look forward to in Macclesfield for 2022.

Please note: Only things confirmed for this year are included, no speculation or maybes here!

  1. Vic Campbell Cakes The Pâtisserie

Already generating the hype of 2000 followers across social media, Vic Campbell Cakes The Pâtisserie - is a natural evolution of a lockdown business becoming a high street store.

They'll open on 51 Chestergate at the end of the month. And we'll have an another article with Vic out this week.

The sweet treat specialists have even opened up a seating area downstairs, which reveals a gorgeously furnished 16th century stone floor cellar to the people of Macclesfield.

Follow the independent bakery here.

  1. Central Glass Macclesfield

Opening this month on 1 Gunco Lane is Central Glass Macclesfield.

With hundreds of new homes undergoing construction across our town as we speak, Central Glass Macclesfield hopes to serve tradesmen and homeowners alike with their renovation supplies.

They'll stock windows, doors, glass, mirrors and even do repairs. Other services include conservatory installation, and commercial enquiries.

  1. Census Results

This year we will hear the results of the 2021 census, which will give the most comprehensive demographics for Macclesfield in over 11 years.

Our town's population should be closer to 60,000 for the first time, and we will be able to know the changing stats of religion, ethnicity, age, and more.

The results are expected in May or June. And rest assured Macclesfield Nub News will be first to report on it.

  1. New Nail Salon

Macclesfield residents love their nail bars, and a new one will open in the heart of the high street this year.

Pink Nails will be opening in the old Vibe Clothing retail unit known as Palace Yard, on 36 Mill Street.

With no opening date yet specified, we await further information about this new Macclesfield business.

  1. Crossings

Opening in February or March, Crossings is a new development of one, two and three-bedroom apartments, smack bang in the heart of Macclesfield.

The Sunderland Street accommodation is brought to you by constructors Chalk and Peaks and Plains Housing Trust.

The Macclesfield music and science festival will take place at Jodrell Bank from July 21 to July 24 2022.

Björk is the only headliner currently confirmed. But we'll report on more news. Get your tickets here.

  1. Barnaby Festival

Also returning after a three year absence, 2022 will host the first full Barnaby Festival since 2019.

While a reduced COVID-safe Barnaby Bright was held last year, there was no parade.

However, it will return for this year, and organisers are even looking for a new Parade Co-ordinator as we speak, which you can read more about here.

  1. Bysmal Boys

Award-winning play 'Bysmal Boys is set in Macclesfield during the Winter of Discontent, which saw union workers strike for better working conditions.

It focusses on Macclesfield Fireman, and is based off the memories of serving Macclesfield Blue Watch member Glyn Genders. His daughter Laura penned the play.

The first-ever homecoming show for the 'Bysmal Boys was set to perform at The Little Theatre, Lord Street, Macclesfield, just before Christmas. However, the debut production from Northern Rep Theatre was postponed, due to rising fears of the Omicron variant.

A new date is set to be announced this spring. And we'll have an accompanying article to go with it. Follow the Macclesfield playwrights on Facebook here.

We've already seen the play, and can assure you, this is not one to be missed!

  1. Rootstock

The rescheduled charity Christ Church gig is the hononary Maxonian's first gig in our town since a brief set at Capesthorne Hall's Rewind Festival in August 2021.
