Who are the General Election candidates in Macclesfield?
A General Election has been called in the UK on Thursday, July 4.
Macclesfield residents will head to the polls to decide who will be their next Member of Parliament.
Macclesfield's MP since 2010 has been David Rutley MP, the Conservative.
Mr Rutley is seeking re-election, but he isn't the only candidate seeking to be Macclesfield's next MP.
Macclesfield Nub News has heard from seven local candidates who have revealed their intention to run in the next General Election.
Macclesfield Nub News will be covering the General Election thoroughly across the next six weeks. We have listed the candidates in alphabetical order by surname.
Stephen Broadhurst
Another former Macclesfield Borough Councillor running for election is Stephen Broadhurst.
He will be the first-ever Reform UK candidate to run in Macclesfield. The aircraft engineer lives in east Macclesfield, near Macclesfield canal.
Neil Christian
Neil Christian, alongside David Rutley and Tim Roca, are the only other candidates to have took part in a Macclesfield General Election before.
Neil ran in 2015, and 2019. And in 2024, Neil is the Macclesfield Liberal Democrat candidate once more. (Confirmed in January 2024.)
Neil has been a barrister since October 2005. He practices family, chancery and personal injury law.
Dickie Fletcher
The Social Democratic Party has a candidate in Macclesfield for the first time.
Dickie runs a music instrument and equipment rental service in Manchester. His uncle was an MP for 25 years.
Amanda Iremonger
Amanda Iremonger is standing for the Green Party. She has not stood for parliament before.
She was selected by Cheshire East Green Party in October 2023. Amanda works in addiction recovery and for Citizens Advice.
Tim Roca
Tim Roca is back for a rematch. Having stood for parliament in Macclesfield before in 2015 for the Labour Party.
He was selected in December 2023 to represent the constituency at the forthcoming General Election.
Tim Roca was Deputy Leader at Westminster City Council, until January 2024. And is a Westminster City Councillor.
David Rutley MP
In January 2023, David Rutley MP confirmed he will face a fifth General Election in Macclesfield. The Conservative is currently Macclesfield's parliamentarian (until parliament is dissolved on May 30).
Before becoming an MP, David was a business executive at companies like Asda, Halifax and Barclays. He was also a political adviser in the John Mayor years.
The 63-year-old is also the current Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Americas, Caribbean and Overseas Territories, a position he has held since October 2022.
Christopher Wellavize
Twenty years ago, Christopher Wellavize was a Macclesfield Borough Councillor.
Twenty years later, he has returned to the political ring and will run as an Independent candidate.
Christopher lives in Adlington, and runs Prestbury Plant and Garden Centre. He revealed his intention to run to Nub News at the end of February 2024.
