Macclesfield Labour Party confirm candidate in next General Election

Another political party in Macclesfield have selected their candidate for the next General Election,

By law, the next UK General Election will take place by the end of January 2025, so it could be a matter of months until Macclesfield votes for who they want to be their next MP.

And the Labour Party are the third party to have confirmed their chosen candidate to run for parliament.

Labour has selected Tim Roca as its parliamentary candidate for the next General Election.

"I am thrilled to have been selected as the parliamentary candidate for my hometown of Macclesfield," said Tim.

"I am proud to have been backed by so many Labour members, councillors, and trade unions. It shows that we have the movement to win here in Macclesfield.

"The people of Macclesfield deserve better than this government. After 13 years of the Tories, nothing in this country seems to work anymore. The Tories have broken Britain – and they have no plan to fix the deep-rooted issues our country faces." 

"After five Tory Prime Ministers, we are left with mortgages, rents, food bills and energy costs out of control, longer hospital waiting lists and neighbourhood policing destroyed

"Labour has a plan to help people through the cost of living crisis, tackle NHS waiting lists and ensure people feel safe on our streets."

Tim previously stood for parliament in 2015, where he came second to current Macclesfield MP David Rutley MP.

In 2015, Tim recieved 22.7% of the votes, to the Conservative's 52.5%.

Tim attended Poynton High School, and has an account on the social media site X with over 3000 followers

A Labour Party spokesperson told Macclesfield Nub News: "Tim grew up in Macclesfield and is an outstanding choice for our Town and communities across the constituency, he'll make a brilliant Member of Parliament."

In January, Macclesfield MP David Rutley confirmed he was vying to be elected as Macclesfield's MP for the fifth election in a row.

In October, the Cheshire East Green Party confirmed Amanda Iremonger as their candidate.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak can call a General Election at any time from now.

Meanwhile, the Liberal Democrats will have an article about their candidate in Macclesfield Nub News shortly.

Beyond the four aforementioned parities, candidates from other parties or independents, have not yet been confirmed.
