'Support us and shop with us again': Macclesfield's Age UK branch to reopen tomorrow

By James Kelly 16th Jun 2020

Age UK Cheshire East's Macclesfield charity shop is reopening to shoppers tomorrow (Weds).

Social distancing and health measures will be in place to protect both customers and those working in the Exchange Street shop.

These will include limiting the number of shoppers permitted inside and donated goods being quarantined for at least 72 hours before they are handled.

An Age UK Cheshire East spokesman said: "This is a particularly important time for our charity as we rely heavily on shop income to enable us to do all the wonderful things we do for local older people.

"All proceeds from sales go towards supporting local older people through this incredibly difficult time.

"So we asking people to please support us and shop with us again.

"We have put in place several new health and safety measures to ensure your time in the shop is both safe and pleasant.

"We continue to accept donations, but we ask for patience if we are unable to take items due to capacity restrictions which we have introduced to maintain a safe environment for all."

The coronavirus crisis has meant more than 75 percent of Age UK Cheshire East's income stream was severed overnight.

To continue to support local older people the charity has launched an emergency appeal.
