Police are appealing for witnesses and video footage following a fatal collision in Macclesfield.

At 9:46am on Monday 4 March police responded to reports of a collision outside of the Co-op store on Buxton Road, Macclesfield.

Attending the scene, officers found that there had been a collision between a white Volkswagen Transporter and a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 92-year-old local man, was taken to Macclesfield Hospital with life threatening injuries. Sadly, he has since passed away.

The driver of the van, a 34-year-old man was uninjured.

Inspector Steve Griffiths, of the Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This collision happened in daylight hours near a very busy road, so it is highly likely it was witnessed."

"If anyone did witness the incident or the lead up to the collision itself, I ask you to contact us please.

"Likewise, if you have CCTV in the area or dashcam that captured the incident it would really help piece together the events".

"If you have any information, we urge you to contact us via the website or call 101, quoting IML-1770105."
