As people's budgets are tight in January, adopting an animal might be the last thing on your mind.

But that doesn't mean any animal shouldn't deserve a chance at love.

And there are four pets, of RSPCA Macclesfield, that are seeking new homes.

Here's a cute quartet of critters that you could rehome.

This kitty is hoping for a Happy Mew Year!

Clint, who is currently being fostered in Macclesfield, is a six-year-old Domestic shorthair cat.

RSPCA Macclesfield said: "Clint has had a rough life and you can see that by his scars. He loves his catnip fish but he isn't sure about other toys because he's never had any before. He is adjusting gradually to his new life off the streets.

"When he was rescued he was treated for weepy gunky eyes and scabby skin. He's excitable around food which is no surprise considering he's had to fend for himself.

"Clint is FIV positive so needs to be a house cat. We know he would need a lot of space to run and play and a secure outdoor area where he can potter about and explore supervised. Lots of enrichment and company. A cat loves nothing more than to experience what the outdoors has to offer and Clint will miss that we feel."

Tiger

This eight-year-old male mutt is after a new owner.

"Tiger has had a very sad time of it," said RSPCA Macclesfield.

"Tiger's elderly owner sadly died leaving three dogs in the home.

"His sister visited the dogs regularly to feed and walk despite her own health problems. A kind neighbour gave a helping hand. The youngest pup they rehomed, tragically the elderly dog had multiple health issues so they had to let him go, leaving Tiger all alone. Our Branch was contacted for help.

"Unsurprisingly he was overwhelmed upon arrival and has had to adapt.

"He is looking for an adult only home. He may be able to live with another dog, but not cats and small animals. He came into RSPCA care overweight and will need to have his weight monitored and managed in his new home."

Barney

This 18-month old cat is a male Domestic shorthair.

"Barney has certainly done the rounds through no fault of his own," said RSPCA Macclesfield.

"He was given to an elderly resident of a care home but she couldn't keep him so another resident took over – he obviously meant well but himself old, found he physically couldn't manage to look after Barney properly.

"Our bold and beautiful Barney is a lovely friendly boy. He has a very cute little chirrup when he chats to you. He is very playful and still thinks he's a kitten. He would suit a family."

He requires a dog-free home, more information HERE.

Luna

This four-year-old crossbreed is full of love to give, and is currently being fostered in Poynton.

RSPCA Macclesfield said: "Luna is a true angel, and her ideal day involves showering immense love. A fortunate family awaits the opportunity to welcome this fantastic, affectionate companion into their home.

"Luna was rescued from horrific living conditions. She was kept in a room full of slurry. It slopped up against the skirting boards. She was very underweight too. Weighing 14kg originally, she is now over 19kg with her ideal weight being 20kg.

"We don't believe she's been around children or lived with other animals so ideally a home where she has company for the most part but no young children. She could potentially live with a friendly well socialised dog."

RSPCA rescue centres and branches are "full to bursting" with unwanted animals as more pets come into care than are being adopted. Between 2021 and 2022, the charity saw a four percent increase in the number of cats coming into its care. This marks a longer-term collapse in rehoming rates; which have fallen by 34% from three years ago (in 2019) - when 39,178 animals were rehomed.

As the charity deals with the busy festive period, it is urging those who aren't in a position to adopt, to please Join the Christmas Rescue and help the RSPCA be there for animals as neglect and abandonment soars.
