All of the events taking place in Macclesfield to mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day

Macclesfield is gearing up to celebrate Victory in Europe Day.
On May 8, 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced that the war in Europe had come to an end following Germany's surrender the day before.
With 2025 being the 80th anniversary of VE Day, communities across the country are preparing to stage extra-special celebrations this year.
With so much planned here in Macclesfield, we've put together a round-up of everything taking place.
VE Fest - Silktown Snooker Club

Silktown Snooker Club are getting the celebrations started early with VE Fest on Sunday (May 4).
There will be live music from VB5 and Ash Wall's SCRATCH.
You can also look forward to a hog roast, Granelli's ice cream, and an outdoor pizza oven.
Staff will be wearing 1940s attire and guests are encouraged to do the same, with a £50 bar tab for the best dressed.
The event will help to raise money for the Macclesfield Armed Forces Veterans Breakfast Club.
VE Day 80 Celebration - Bollington Recreation Ground

The fun continues on Bank Holiday MOnday, with Bollington Town Council hosting an event at the Recreation Ground.
Head over from 11am to 3pm to see performances from Bollington Brass Band along with a variety of children's activities.
There will also be a dog show organised by Bollington Vets and Off Leash as well as a BBQ.
VE Day 80 Years On - St Michael's Church

St Michael's Church in Market Place is hosting a special exhibition curated by Trevor Druce.
Running from Wednesday (May 7) to Sunday (May 11), the exhibition is free to visit.
It will feature the stories of 'ordinary people' from 'extraordinary times'.
Proclamation Reading - Macclesfield Town Hall

On VE Day itself, Macclesfield Town Council and the Royal British Legion will come together for a commemorative service.
At 9am the Mayor of Macclesfield will read the proclamation.
This is timed to coincide with the same readings taking place across the United Kingdom.
There will also be a performance by Sacha Sloan.
Beacon Lighting - White Nancy

At 9.30pm on Thursday (May 8), Bollington Town Council will light a beacon next to White Nancy in celebration of the 'light of peace'.
The public are invited to assemble at The Market Place from 9.15pm, where the Town Mayor will read The Tribute, and from where the beacon can be safely viewed.
To ensure a safe viewing point, a road closure will be in place around The Market Place off High Street (from the junction with Palmerston Road to the junction with Oldham Street) from 8.30pm to 10.00pm.
Tea Dance - Macclesfield Town Hall

On Saturday, Maxonians are invited to take a trip back in time to the 1940s for an afternoon of fun.
Expect live music from the 40s, dancing, afternoon tea and a prize raffle.
A limited number of tickets, priced at £2, are available from the Town Hall in advance.
