A man found in possession of drugs and a knife has been sentenced.

Syed Rizvi was banned from driving and handed a suspended prison sentence at Crewe Magistrates Court earlier this week after pleading guilty to a string of offences.

At 5.50pm on April 19, 2024, Cheshire Police officers stopped a silver Audi TT on Gaw End Lane in Macclesfield due to the manner of driving.

Police say the vehicle smelt 'heavily' of cannabis and that the driver, Rizvi, appeared to be under the influence.

On top of this, the vehicle was found to be registered in the Derby area, was SORN and had an expired MOT.

Furthermore, Rizvi had no insurance and held a revoked licence, having previously been disqualified.

The 32-year-old was searched under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act and was found to have a kitchen knife in his jacket pocket, located in the front passenger side of the vehicle.

Rizvi then provided a sample of saliva and tested positive for cannabis.

Shortly after 6pm, he was arrested for drug driving, uninsured driving, driving without a licence, driving without an MOT, and possession of a bladed article.

An hour later, he was further arrested for possession of a Class B drug after producing a small quantity of cannabis from his sock during the custody booking in procedure.

Rizvi, of Grenham Avenue in Hulme, Manchester, appeared at Crewe Magistrates Court on Tuesday, February 4, where he pleaded guilty to all of the offences.

He was handed a 16-week prison sentence, suspended for 12 months.

As part of the suspended sentence order, he will have to complete up to 30 days of rehabilitation activity.

Rizvi has also been banned from driving for 36 months and will have to pay a £120 fine along with costs and a surcharge amounting to £239.
