The kids are going back to school, and sports clubs across Macclesfield will have an influx of new members.

And the fast-growing female rugby scene in Macclesfield is actively seeking new members.

Macclesfield RUFC, in Upton Priory, is hosting an open day for wannabe girls rugby players later this month.

Teens should show up on Saturday September 16 from 10:15am to take part.

Head Coach Pip Gregory said: "The Mini Warrior is our way to recruit by inviting girls down to a training session and giving it a go."

"It is for girls U12s - U18s which is school years 7 to Year 13! It is a take on the RFU initiative, Inner Warrior, to encourage women to take part in rugby.

"We ask that those attending bring water, wear sports clothes that they don't mind getting dirty (in case of poor weather) as well as boots if they own any. It is an opportunity to meet the coaches and management team as well as the girls themselves!"

It is free to take part. The event is more like a try-out session than a trial.
