The Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued an update on the large fire that ripped through a disused mansion on Beech Lane. See the initial report here.

The road closure of Beech Lane has now been lifted, but people have been warned to stay away from the building as it has been deemed unsafe.

An investigation was launched into the cause of the fire with a building inspector arriving at the scene around 11am this morning.

Shortly after midday, crews were still inspecting the property using a thermal imaging camera and a hose reel to extinguish any hotspots.

As of 1:30pm, the building had been inspected "as much as possible" with no further signs of fire.

Part of the building has been deemed too unsafe for firefighters to enter, but the service says they inspected those areas safely from outside.

A structural surveyor and the owner of the building are set to come to the site to secure the building and determine what action needs to be taken.

The cause of the fire is yet to be established by the ongoing investigation.

Crews battled the blaze throughout the night with a total of 11 fire engines attending the scene from across the region.
