A Upton Priory organisation has just held their biggest party ever.

As King Charles III and Queen Camilla ascended to the throne at the weekend, customers and families at Belong Macclesfield care village marked the historic occasion with a coronation extravaganza to remember.

The Kennedy Avenue care village's celebration centrepiece comprised a special royal family reminiscence session, transporting residents and tenants dressed in their best back to past ceremonies and conjuring happy memories of days gone by.

In preparation for the event, customers called upon their creative flair when making homemade decorations with the support of Macclesfield Community ArtSpace. Volunteers from the charity collaborated with Belong to make bunting, table ornaments and stencil pictures to adorn their home.

Meta Swift, resident, enjoys the Coronation celebrations at Belong Macclesfield.

For the big moment itself, Belong customers and colleagues waved their Union Jacks whilst cheering on the royals from their in-house entertainment venue, before tucking into a fancy banquet inspired by British cuisine classics and accompanied by a tipple or two. Later, more gala festivities followed, including music and dancing and a joyful atmosphere.

Anna Seaton, experience coordinator at Belong Macclesfield, said: "Our customers have many fond memories of past royal occasions, including Queen Elizabeth II's coronation 70 years ago, so we took lead from what they wanted to see, bringing to life their ideas for how to celebrate.

"The result was a right royal knees-up, inspired by their memories, infused with modern take – a fantastic party that will be talked about for years to come!"

Last year, the not-for-profit dementia specialist was chosen to feature in the official publication of Her Majesty The Queen: The Official Platinum Jubilee Pageant Album. The book commends outstanding individuals and organisations from across the country and the Commonwealth that have had an impact on life in the UK during the seven decades of the late Queen Elizabeth II's reign.
