A Bollington musician has released her debut album.

Megan Dixon Hood, has caught attention for her album rollout of East of the Sun.

Instead of releasing on Friday, like most new music is nowadays, Megan has opted to release it on Saturday April 22.

This is because she wanted it to coincide with Earth Day, and Megan is indebted to nature as an influence on her songs, an impact which is clear to hear throughout the LP.

Together with her band, Megan creates forest pop soundscapes that gather you up and immerse you in cinematic storytelling. Past shows have seen her headline a tour in the UK, play festivals, perform on TV, and support Rag N Bone Man.

On her journey, she has enticed the ears of independent tastemakers, becoming a regular feature on BBC Introducing Stoke and appearing on Extinction Rebellion's Creative Hub.

"Although I hope listeners find their own meaning in the record, 'East Of The Sun' to me is a story about the Earth and humans, and how we interact with it and with each other," she said.

"There's a narrative of life lessons to be uncovered, whether that be awareness surrounding the destruction of the planet (The Wishing Tree), recognising the power of women (Athena), or celebrating the desire to be truly ourselves (Cloudwalker). This is why it felt special to release the album on Earth Day, April 22nd.

"I wanted to weave elements of folklore into the music, as it's something I'm so inspired by and I liked the idea of blending fantasy with reality. It gives scope for imagination, but draws parallels to our own lives and I think we managed to capture that both sonically and lyrically.

"My hope is that every listener will recognise a piece of themselves in the album, or at the very least, they will think about our existence in the world from a different perspective. We might be small in a big, big world, but that doesn't mean we can't make a positive difference."

East Of The Sun was co-produced by Megan Dixon Hood, Jake Greville, Matthew Cotterill and Joel Atkins, barring two tunes which were produced by Matthew Cotterill and Joel Atkins.

The songs also feature performances from Liam Morgan (electric guitar) and Jake Steel (bass).

All tracks were recorded at a studio in Adelphi Mill, Grimshaw Lane, Bollington, except for The Wishing Tree and Cloudwalker.

As well as upcoming shows at larger venues, Megan will hope to announce multiple local gigs later in the year.
