A Broken Cross grandfather is to run his 19th London Marathon on Sunday.

Retired grocer Harry Newton (85) has inspired Macclesfield by running marathons almost every year since he was 57.

And for his 19th London Marathon this weekend, he will be joined by three family members.

"I am running in London on Sunday with my son David and my granddaughter Ellie Williams and Ellie's fiancé Alex Challinor," said Harry.

"So it's three generations running for Alzheimer's Research UK."

Counting non-London Marathons as well, Harry has ran about 40 marathons in total.

His current fundraiser for Alzheimer's Research UK, has already seen the family already smashing their target of £2200.

Alzheimer's has impacted their family, and is a cause which affects most families, and set to become more common as the UK adapts to having an ageing population with people also living longer.

The total money raised currently stands at £3164, before they've even set foot in the 26.2 mile race.
