It is almost time for the Macclesfield Charity Beer Festival 2023.

The annual event, which has been going since 1995, raises money for charity and supports local brewers.

Last year's event, which saw Macclesfield Nub News even volunteer, raised a whopping £5400 for a local children's charity.

This year, there is a new charity and there will be new beers.

Tickets are now on sale for the 2023 Macclesfield Charity Beer Festival, which will take place over two evenings, on Friday 12 and Saturday 13 May, with a family-friendly day-time event also on the Saturday.

This year's festival will raise funds for Macclesfield-based charity The Rossendale Trust, who are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.

"We're really pleased to be raising funds for the Macclesfield-based charity Rossendale Trust," said Festival Organiser Louise Whiteley.

"Tickets now on sale. The Friday and Saturday evenings will open at 7pm with live music, and over 150 beers, ciders and perries on offer, as well as craft larger, wines and prosecco, in addition to a range of gin-based drinks, plus a selection of non-alcoholic beers and wines.

"Tickets, which include a commemorative glass, cost £12.50 each and are available from this link or this link.

"The family-friendly day time session, which is free to attend, opens from midday until 6pm, also includes a range of activities to keep the full family entertained, including vintage games, face painting, market stalls, and live music throughout."

The Macclesfield Beer Festival is one of the region's longest-running charity events, having raised over £300,000 in its 26-year history.

This year, in addition to returning sponsors like Churchill Way's SAS Daniels and fellow Macclesfield firm Spiral Print, the festival welcomes a new main sponsor called The Cheshire Pub Co

Their venues include the Churchill Tree in Nether Alderley, the Ship in Style and the Frozen Mop in Mobberley.

In addition, Chestergate-based bar and eatery Suburban Green, which opened in Macclesfield last September, is also a new sponsor for the 2023 Macclesfield Beer Festival.

James Hogben, commenting on behalf of the Macclesfield Beer Festival Committee and Macclesfield Roundtable, is elated for this year's event.

"We're really excited to launch the Macclesfield Beer Festival for 2023 with some exciting new additions," he said.

"This includes a great line up of music, our most varied food offering to-date, family entertainment and of course a fantastic selection of beers, wines, ciders, perries and gins.

"I'd like to say a big thank you to all of our fantastic sponsors, including SAS Daniels, Cheshire Pub Co, Spiral Print and Suburban Green, as well as our amazing volunteers and everyone that comes and supports the event each year.

"We look forward to welcoming you to Macclesfield Beer Festival 2023."

There are also local foodies providing grub at the event, with an expanded offering compared to last year.

Church Street butchers N Carter & Co are back for another year with their pies, said to be a favourite of Festival organisers. And new for this year, will be grilling up some of Carter's finest sausages and burgers as well.

The live music offering includes Macclesfield bands like Queen Cult and Maccwood Fleet.

And once again there is a handy bus service to and from the festival, starting at Macclesfield's Waters Green Tavern, with buses running regularly through the evening on Friday and Saturday night and during the Saturday daytime. Anyone can utilise the bus service for a small donation to go to the charity.
