A Bollington pub has been commended for generating key donations and funds for Silklife Foodbank.

The Spinners Arms, on Palmerston Street in Bollington, held a charity football match for the Macclesfield good cause.

The closely-fought game featured former Manchester United footballer Brian McClair as one captain, alongside his opposite Jason Oakes, and took place at the Bollington Recreation Ground.

The event raised £2100 for Silklife Foodbank, a figure which is a combination of money and goods donated.

The £2100 amount was from a combination of food bank item donations, cash fundraising given before or on the day, and an auction held by Steve Bellis the president of Stockport County FC, who also has close ties with the pub.

Landlord Adam Colebatch has always strived to do his bit for charity since he took over 11 years ago, but even the size of this figure came as a surprise to staff at the pub.

"An amazing, heartwarming thank you to all those that attended and made our fundraiser amazing," said The Spinners Arms.

The pub, which recently introduced a new pizza menu, has also done their bit for Macclesfield's Space4Autism and The Christie Macclesfield throughout 2023.

Dan Blackman, Team Lead of Silklife Foodbank said: "I would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation to all who made the charity football match such a success."

"The total raised will enable our service to continue to restock the shelves with all the essential items to ensure our emergency food parcels are kept complete very time and that no-one who is referred for help ever goes without.

"Many thanks to those in Bollington and surrounding areas who achieved such a great outcome through what looked like a really fun experience".
